Cryptocoryne retrospiralis aquarium plant

Pack size: 5cm pot

This beautiful plant is best suited mid- or background plant that has been a popular choice among aquarium lovers for hundreds of years. It is one of the earliest cultivated aquarium plants out there. C. retrospiralis has maintained such popularity because it is relatively easy to grow,

This Beautiful Cryptocoryne has loose corkscrew shape of its long, reed-like leaves with a hammered texture make an intriguing backdrop or accent plant. Its dark to bright green leaves can also take on  a bronzy hue depending on conditions.

High light will bring out more colour in the plants. In the wild, Cryptocoryne retrospiralis  are often found growing emersed and can produce pink and purple flowers above the water. They will also grow well submerged and can be planted into the substrate or attached to a rock or piece of driftwood.

Understanding Crypt melt – all Cryptocoryne species require stable water parameter and light conditions. Once planted, Crypts should not be moved otherwise it can trigger what is called Crypt melt. If a Crypt has a significant change of environment (ph, kh , gh, lighting intensity or duration, root disturbance etc), Crypt melt can be triggered. The leaves start to disintegrate as the plant prepares for its new environment – DO NOT WORRY! Your plant will begin to grow back over the next 30 days (sometimes sooner, sometimes later) – it’s still very much alive and busy getting ready for the growth of new leaves. In the meantime, any decaying leaves should be trimmed and recycled in a compost bin.

This Cryptocoryne species grows taller than many others in the genus. Therefore, it works best in midground or background positions. Moreover, its upright growth makes it ideal for creating vertical contrast behind shorter plants.

Cryptocoryne retrospiralis aquarium plant thrives in low to moderate lighting. Because of this, it suits low-tech aquariums very well. However, stable water conditions are essential during the early establishment phase. Once settled, the plant becomes extremely robust and reliable.

This species prefers nutrient-rich substrates. In addition, root fertilisers support healthy leaf development and stronger growth. Although growth is steady rather than fast, the plant delivers long-lasting structure with minimal maintenance.
